NAGAON, Jan 12 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today attended a function held here to mark the 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The function was organised by Brihattar Asam Bengali Unnayan Samity.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that on this auspicious day Swami Vivekananda was born, who took great pains to establish Indian culture and civilisation in the global context. The Chief Minister called upon the people to follow the path shown by Vivekananda to make India an ideal country in the world.
He also urged the youth to work honestly for the development of India as well as the world. Sonowal stressed the need of unity among all the people of the State irrespective of caste, creed and religion for the prosperity of the State.
MLA Rupok Sarma, Dimbeswar Das, Siladitya Dev, Badal Maharaj of Ramkrishna Mission and others were also present in the function.
Doomdooma Correspondent adds: Along with the rest of the country, the National Youth Day was also celebrated in the tea town of Doomdooma to mark the 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on Thursday. Sri Ramakrishna Sevashram of Doomdooma observed the occasion with a daylong programme.
The programme started with the paying of floral tributes on the portrait of Swami Vivekananda. A drawing competition was organised among the students on the occasion. Later, a procession was also taken out. A discussion on Swami Vivekananda�s life, works and teachings was also held.
The National Youth Day was also observed at Lotus Academy, Doomdooma. The CBSE Sahadoya Science Exhibition-2017 was organised in the school on the occasion, which was inaugurated by Hiranya Hazarika, chairman, Sahadoya, Tinsukia Chapter.
Thirty-eight science models from 10 different schools affiliated to CBSE under Sahadoya, Tinsukia Chapter, were on display in the exhibition.
The National Youth Day was also observed at Sadiya by Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya. A procession was taken out to mark the occasion.
