CM reviews work on Jorhat Women�s University

GUWAHATI, July 2 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today held a discussion at the Jorhat Circuit House with the senior officers on the progress of the preliminary works to set up the Women�s University at Jorhat.

The Chief Minister told the senior officers that of the amount of Rs 5 crore required for the University, an amount of Rs 1.10 crore would be released soon. He directed the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner to find out a location for the permanent campus of the University inside Jorhat town. The University is now operating from a place adjacent to the Rowriah airport.

KM Bujarbarua, Vice Chancellor of the University told the Chief Minister that the classes of the University would start from August next and advertisements have already been issued for recruitment of its teachers.

The Chief Minister advised the Vice Chancellor to make the recruitment through the selection committees going by the legal procedures. He also suggested that a set of courses in various subjects, like the six-month diploma in skill development, baby care, teachers� training to PhD level should be introduced.

The Chief Minister also suggested that courses on some subjects of SIRD should also be introduced by the University and advised the authorities to build the University as one comparable to the SNDT Women�s University of Mumbai.

Besides the Vice Chancellor, Principal Secretary of the Finance Department Paban Kumar Barthakur, Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Solanki Bishal Basant and senior officers of the Planning and Development Department were present at the discussion, said an official press release here.
