GUWAHATI, Feb 21 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi reviewed the status of schemes and projects of Soil Conservation Department at a meeting at the Assam Secretariat conference hall here today.
Gogoi asked the officials to come up with performances that would help to mitigate the problems of poverty, unemployment and in raising the income of the people. �Rewards will be given to those who put up good performances. Strict action will be taken against those for dereliction of duties,� he said.
Gogoi said the Soil Conservation Department has a pivotal role to play in containing erosion, preserving the soil nutrients so vital for raising agricultural production and in irrigation. The Chief Minister called for convergence of schemes between the Soil Conservation, Agriculture and Irrigation departments for better outcomes.
The Chief Minister asked the department to hold regular review meetings to keep a close tab on the implementation of schemes and projects at the field level. Gogoi directed the department to put up the list of beneficiaries in the website as well as in the newspapers. Gogoi said he would look into the problems of the department and initiate necessary steps accordingly.
Minister for Soil Conservation, Chandan Sarkar exhorted upon the officials to work with full vigour in the coming days. Sarkar asked the officials to come up with good schemes and to focus on creation of permanent assets. He said that he would review the progress and status of schemes and projects regularly and take suitable action accordingly.
Earlier, Principal Secretary, Soil Conservation Department, Paban Borthakur gave a brief account of the ongoing schemes and projects under State Plan, NEC, RIDF, IWMP and Chief Minister�s Special Package. CEO, SLNA, Integrated Water Management Programme (IWMP), SS Meenakshi Sundaram gave a power point presentation on the status of projects under IWMP.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Principal Secretary to CM, MGVK Bhanu and Secretary, Soil Conservation Department, S Thiek, said an official release.
