CM reviews minority welfare schemes

GUWAHATI, June 7 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviewed the different programmes being implemented by the Welfare of Minorities and Development Department with senior officials at the Assam Secretariat here today.

The Chief Minister directed that all pending proposals against allocation made by Government of India under the Multi Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP) must be submitted to the Department by the Deputy Commissioners of minority-concentrated districts concerned latest by June 30.

Sonowal instructed that henceforth char areas should also be included in the MSDP schemes. Emphasising on need-based focus on health, education and drinking water related schemes, the Chief Minister told the officials that participation of the general people should be made mandatory in the selection of schemes.

Sonowal also reviewed the arrangements being made for the forthcoming Haj pilgrimage and directed that all necessary steps should be taken by the authorities concerned for smooth and hassle free to and fro journeys of the pilgrims.

Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Secretary, Welfare of Minorities and Development Department and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
