CM reviews flood situation in Barak Valley

SILCHAR, June 24 - In a bid to review the flood situation in Barak Valley, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal arrived at Silchar on Saturday evening.

Sonowal visited some of the flood-affected areas of Patharkandi constituency in Karimganj district and took stock of the situation therein. It may be mentioned that around 2.36 lakh people have been affected by floods in Karimganj district.

During the visit, the Chief Minister held meetings with officials of the Karimganj district administration and instructed them to pitch in efforts to reach out to the flood victims at this hour of crisis. It is learnt that he has also issued clear instructions to repair the dykes damaged in the flood.

The Chief Minister also visited Hailakandi district and analysed the situation. According to sources, around 7 lakh people have been affected by flood in the valley including over 1.5 lakh in Cachar district. However, with the weather clearing up, water level of Barak Valley is receding bringing a much-needed relief to the victims.
