CM refutes allegation over teacher suicides

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 2 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today challenged the veracity of the allegation that 3,832 teachers committed suicide in the State because of non-payment of their dues.

In a statement here on Monday, Gogoi said if the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders, who have alleged that 3,832 teachers committed suicide under the present regime in the State, could furnish relevant documents justifying their claim, the State Government would be keen to institute an inquiry. He also urged upon the AGP leadership to furnish district-wise reports in support of their claim in this connection.

The Chief Minister also said that whenever there is any suicidal case comes to the fore, the State Government takes it very seriously. Regarding farmers suicide cases, the State Government immediately instituted an inquiry to pin down the reasons of such suicides and suggest remedies for that. Likewise, if the detailed report of farmers suicide is given to the government, an exhaustive inquiry would be ordered very soon, the Chief Minister added.
