CM reconstitutes police recruitment board

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 28 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today reconstituted the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), a day after its chairman Pradip Kumar, a retired IPS officer, resigned.

Kumar was holding the post for a long time.

Normally, the ADGP or Special DG who is heading the TAP (training and armed police) branch of Assam Police is kept as the chairman of the SLPRB. However, Pradip Kumar was holding the charge even after retirement.

Sonowal, who also holds the Home portfolio, appointed DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta as the new chairman, besides ADGP Harmeet Singh as member secretary and ADGP LR Bishnoi and IGP Hiren Nath as members of the Board.

Hiren Nath and Harmeet Singh were members in the previous board as well. But according to Nath, he was never invited to attend any meeting of the board by the former chairman.

The board has been reconstituted with a view to ensure a transparent recruitment to the posts of Sub-Inspector in Assam Police, the CMs office said in a statement.

Sonowal further directed the Board to complete the written examination within November 20.

The Chief Minister also asked the Board to conduct the examination in the most transparent manner and ensure that no anomaly takes place in the recruitment process, the statement added.
