By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 19 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today maintained that despite the Narendra Modi Governments attempts to erase the memory of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a grateful nation and its people would always remember her for her invaluable contributions towards nation building.

In a statement, the Chief Minister said that during the tenure of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the country not only attained self-sufficiency in food but also made remarkable progress in industry, education, science and technology, art and culture, and sports.

Gogoi said that her wisdom and statesmanship helped India to earn recognition among the comity of nations.

The Chief Minister said that the great leader always stood like a rock to strengthen the edifice of unity and integrity of the country, and that she sacrificed her life for it.

Indirajis ideals have become more relevant in the backdrop of growing intolerance in the country when divisive forces are at work to tear asunder the social fabric, he said, adding that the great leaders ideals of unity and integrity, which find echo in the preachings of Srimanta Sankaradeva, Madhabdeva and Azan Fakir, provide inspiration to fight against divisive forces.

Gogoi claimed that Assam had been marching triumphantly on the path of progress and development as the Government did not let the divisive forces to emerge.

The Chief Minister also administered the pledge to officials and employees of the Assam Secretariat on the occasion of Quami Ekta Week, synchronizing with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Gogoi, while administering the pledge, exhorted the officials and employees to work with dedication to preserve and strengthen the freedom and integrity of the nation, and to continue the endeavour to settle all differences and disputes relating to religion, language, region or other political or economic grievances by peaceful and Constitutional means.
