CM ready to face Himantas defamation case

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 23 - The State government today said that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is ready to face the defamation case filed against him by BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma.

We welcome the defamation case filed by Himanta Biswa Sarma. Now we will be able to tell the people everything through the court, senior Congress leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Agriculture, Panchayat and Rural Development Rakibul Hussain, who is also the Government spokesman, told reporters at the State Secretariat here.

He added, Even the BJP Parliamentary Committee and Sarbananda Sonowal had then alleged that Sarma is involved in the Louis Berger and Saradha scams. Will he (Sarma) now also file defamation cases against the BJP Parliamentary Committee and Sonowal?

Hussain urged Sarma not to adopt any delaying tactics but rather go right ahead with the case so that the entire court process is completed before the Legislative Assembly elections.

Sarma had yesterday filed a civil defamation case worth Rs 100 crore at the Court of Civil Judge (1), Kamrup (Metro), against the Chief Minister. He had further said that he would also file a criminal defamation case against Gogoi soon.

The case was filed, challenging the Chief Ministers recent comment in the media that Sarma was an accused in both the Saradha and Louis Berger scams.
