CM projected for AOA presidentship

GUWAHATI, Oct 23 - Officials of the State sports bodies have urged Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to take over the reins of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA).

On the sidelines of the function organised to felicitate the medal winners at the recent World Women Boxing Championship � Lovlina Borgohain and Jamuna Boro in the Sarusajai Sports Complex here yesterday evening, a group of sports organisers requested Sonowal to become AOA president assuring that they would provide all support to him in this regard. The Chief Minister, however, did not give his consent immediately and asked the organisers to work together for the betterment of games and sports in the State. According to an AOA source, Sonowal told the organisers to �wait and see� till October 25, the day when nominations will be filed for the AOA election.

The AOA election for 22 posts, along with the Annual General Meeting, will be held on November 10 and nominations have to be filed on October 25. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is October 30. Altogether 182 State and district level sports officials will cast their votes in the election.
