CM-Prithanis tacit link exposed: AGP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 29 Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today asserted that the tacit link of Chief Minister with the tax evasion of the Prithani brothers has come to light with the yesterday raids on the campuses of the businessmen by the sleuths of the Income Tax Department.

This has now become crystal clear that with the patronage of the Chief Minister, the two brothers could evade income tax worth crores of rupees. It is now the duty of the people as to why the Chief Minister was patronizing such unscrupulous people, who have been duping the state exchequer of crores of rupees, said AGP general secretary and chief spokesman Atul Bora.

The yesterday episode has also provided credence to the popular doubt of the involvement of the present State Government in the multi-crore N C Hills scam, Bora said.

He also alleged that the Chief Minister has mortgaged the State with the unscrupulous traders like the Prithani brothers and this led to the spiraling hike in the prices of essential commodities.

He also questioned the justification of the State Governments decisions to allow the two businessmen dominate the contract deals of the Government departments and allotment of hundreds of bighas of Government land to the two businessmen.

The Chief Minister also needs to explain to the people as to what made him embrace the two brothers depriving the indigenous businessmen. The Chief Minister should also explain to the people why the appeals of the indigenous people, who included the landless farmers, ex-tea garden labourers and small tea growers, for land were ignored when the Prithani brothers were allotted hundreds of bighas of Government land, Bora said.
