CM praises role of gaonburahs in rural development

TINSUKIA, Dec 6 - Gaonburah is a very important functionary in the Indian administrative framework and gaonburahs have a very important role in the development of the social, economic, cultural and religious spheres in the rural areas, said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while speaking in the 38th session of the All Assam Gaonburah Association at Chapakhowa in Sadiya today. The Chief Minister also appealed to the gaonburahs to dedicate themselves to the task of eradicating black magic, witchcraft and other social evils like drug addiction, etc.

Sonowal urged the gaonburahs to help locate talents, specially in the field of sports. He said that the grievances of the gaonburahs would be addressed appropriately by his Government. He also assured them that like other government officials, gaonburahs would also be granted honorarium for their service during elections.

The meeting was presided over by the president of the gaonburahs� association, Hoketo Sema, and attended by the MPs of Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur, Rameswar Teli and Pradan Baruah respectively, and other dignitaries.
