CM pays rich tributes to Kushal Konwar

GUWAHATI, June 15 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday paid tributes to freedom fighter Swahid Kushal Konwar on the occasion of his death anniversary in a function held at the Nehru Park.

Chief Minister Gogoi paid floral tributes at the statue of the freedom fighter who had laid down his life for the freedom of the country.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Gogoi said that the collective strength of the people is the mightiest of all forces and the freedom movement of India aptly proved that where people irrespective of caste, creed and religion took part. In Assam also people in hordes especially from the rural areas actively participated in the freedom struggle and laid down their lives for the cause of the nation. Gogoi also attributed the freedom of speech and freedom of economy that everybody can enjoy today to the unstinted and selfless sacrifice to the martyrs like Kushal Konwar, Gomdhar Konwar, Maniram Dewan and the like who contributed immensely to the freedom of the Nation. He also reiterated the commitment of the government to value the sacrifice of the freedom fighters of Assam and look after their lineages.

Gogoi also attended an all faith prayer meeting held on the occasion where Jamuna Konwar daughter-in-law of Kushal Konwar, other freedom fighters and senior citizens were present.

Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (M), Dr. M. Angamuthu, Mayor GMC Abir Patra and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
