CM participates in Bihu celebrations

GUWAHATI, April 16 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi visited Pub-Guwahati Bihu Sanmelan at the Assam Engineering Institute playground at Chandmari yesterday and spent some time with the Bihu revellers and danced to the tune of pepa and beats of the dhol.

Wishing the Bihu revellers at the venue, Gogoi said that Bihu celebrations were no longer confined to the State alone, the festival has spread all over the country and abroad which testifies to the adoration and popularity of Bihu. He added that celebration of Bihu throughout the globe was a testimony to the fact that the world was getting to know and recognise the Assamese culture and its festivals.

Earlier on April 14, the Chief Minister visited Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani at the Latasil playground as chief guest and wished everybody on the occasion of Rongali Bihu.

�Bihu is the lifeline of Assamese culture and it ushers in peace, prosperity and growth in the society. Bihu promotes brotherhood among different communities and strengthens the bond of unity among diversities. It also encourages co-existence among man-animal and nature,� he observed.

Gogoi also released a souvenir. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, Sarbananda Sonowal was also present on the occasion.
