CM opens Uttar Kamalabari Sakha Satra at Majuli

JORHAT, Sept 8 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday inaugurated Sri Sri Uttar Kamalabari Sakha Satra and Cultural Research Centre at the Dohaborachuk locality of Jorhat.

The building was constructed with the Untied Fund of the State Government involving a financial outlay Rs 30 lakh. At the same function, Sonowal also paid rich floral tributes to Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of the maestro�s 94th birth anniversary today.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said he felt glad to have inaugurated Sri Sri Uttar Kamalabari Sakha Satra on the auspicious occasion of Dr Hazarika�s birth anniversary. He said he sincerely hoped that the inauguration of Sri Sri Uttar Kamalabari Sakha Satra at Jorhat would contribute in propagating and promoting the teachings of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva outside Majuli and to other parts of the State.

Sonowal also said in the age of science and technology, Srimanta Sankaradeva�s teachings were very relevant and would help mankind maintain a perfect balance between traditional values and modernism.

The Chief Minister stated that Assam owes a great deal to the contributions of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. �His creations bind the humanity and help spread the message of life across the globe,� Sonowal observed.

He also urged upon the people, in general, to take the responsibility to make aware the upcoming generations of the teachings of Sankaradeva, Madhavadeva and Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

Sonowal at the same time thanked late Prasenjit Kumar Phukan, the donor of the plot of the land on which the Sakha Satra has been built and his family, for their benevolence.

Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Sri Sri Uttar Kamalabari Satra Satradhikar Janardan Deva Goswami, BJP Tingkhong MLA Bimal Borah and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Later, the Chief Minister arrived in Majuli and attended a function organised at the Majuli College ground at Doriyapar to mark the fourth anniversary of upgrading the Brahmaputra island from erstwhile civil sub-division of Jorhat district to a district on this day in 2016.

Sonowal, in his address, narrated about the various developmental schemes and projects initiated by his government at Majuli and across Assam.

The Chief Minister in the same function inaugurated 146 schemes of various government departments, which were completed at a cost of Rs 52.70 crore.

He also laid the foundation stones of 183 projects that will be completed at a cost of Rs 68 crore.

Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and Dhemaji MLA Dr Ronuj Pegu were among the leaders present in the function.
