CM opens treasury building of Majuli dist

JORHAT, Feb 1 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday inaugurated the new building of the district treasury office at Garmur headquarters of the island district.

The building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 99.48 lakh. Sonowal, while speaking at a function organised on the occasion, said that his government was giving top priority to Majuli�s all-round development and the government has already started work on a number of schemes and projects that will cost about Rs 600 crore.

He said that Majuli is going to be the first carbon-free district in the country and work in this regard has been initiated. Sonowal, who represents the Majuli Assembly seat, said that the government was serious about the problems of annual floods and erosion the islanders were facing and steps have been initiated in this regard.
