CM opens Lahowal, Duliajan police stations

DIBRUGARH, Oct 29 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated two police stations of Lahowal and Duliajan built under Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) and dedicated them to the people of the district, a release informed. Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said after assuming power in 2016, his government has dedicated itself for the socio-economic development of the people of the State and has been working 24x7 to empower the people.

Referring to the abysmal condition of police stations during the previous government in the State, Sonowal said though the police personnel have dedicated themselves for the people's safety, the previous government did not do anything for lifting the morale of the policemen and the images of the police stations. The present state government moved by the mantra of Narendra Modi's Smart Police envisaged MOITRI scheme and made budgetary provision in the first budget of the government. In the first phase, steps were taken for the infrastructure development of 73 police stations. Moreover, steps were also taken for the construction of 100

barracks, he said.

The Chief Minister further said in the wake of the development of science and technology, the commission of crimes has also undergone a sea change. However, the state police have achieved tremendous successes in dealing with crimes.

He said during the COVID-19 pandemic and flood, the humane phase of police was adequately reflected.

He also observed that the Assam Police have also attained success in various inquiries associated with crimes against women.

Sonowal said in sync with the state government's principle of

'zero tolerance' against graft, the Assam Police has been working diligently to wipe out corruption. He also hoped that the new police stations of Lohowal and Duliajan would lift the morale of the police personnel who are involved in securing the lives and properties of the people.
