CM opens botanical garden at Morigaon

MORIGAON, Sept 4 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal formally inaugurated the Sahityarathi Lakhminath Bezbaroa Botanical Garden at Morigaon yesterday. The Sahitya Manishi Morigaon Botanical Park was built by the Forest and Environment department of Assam Government as a part of its policy that in every district of Assam there will be a forest garden in the name of illustrious sons of Assam having several species of medicinal plants.

Addressing the meeting held on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the Assam Government has taken a number of measures to conserve the forest cover in the State adding that ecological imbalance must be curbed. The rich flora and fauna of the State must be conserved and in this direction people must come out to cooperate with the government, the Chief Minister added.

Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of fishery training camp and tourist centre along the historic Charon Beel where the 33rd National Games of Water Sports was held way back in 2007. The Assam Fishery Development Corporation (AFDC) has taken up these developmental projects at Charon Beel. The meeting was addressed by Primal Suklabaidya, Minister, Fishery, Forest and Excise, Pijush Hazarika, Minister of State for Health and Urban Development, Rama Kanta Deori, MLA, Morigaon cum Chairman, Assam Fishery Development Corporation, Angurlata Deka, MLA, Batadrava, Dimbeswar Das, MLA, Raha and top officials of the Fishery and Forest departments.
