GUWAHATI, Sept 16 - �To realise Mahatma Gandhi�s dream of making India clean and dirt-free, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. This campaign has not remained merely a government programme as it has transcended into a mass movement which is embraced by the people of the country wholeheartedly,� Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Saturday while inaugurating the �Swachhta Hi Sewa 2018� campaign and a piped water supply scheme under �Mission 100� at Boko in Kamrup.
Urging the people to make the objective of the campaign of making a clean India and Assam successful, the Chief Minister called on the people to join hands with the government in keeping each village and town of the State clean and dirt-free. He also informed that people have given tremendous response to the government�s call to plant fruit and flower bearing and medicinal trees for realising the dream of a pollution-free Assam.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the 2 No Rajapara piped water supply scheme. He stressed on the need to properly maintain the scheme and keeping the natural beauty of the area intact. He also took part in a cleanliness campaign at Beltola in the city in the morning.
Dergaon Correspondent adds: The Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, a cleanliness drive, was launched by Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra, at a function at Melamora College here yesterday. Earlier, Minister for Agriculture, Atul Bora launched a Piped Water Supply Scheme (PWSS) at No 1 Borsapori under Bokakhat division as part of Mission 100. Another PWSS was inaugurated by SDO Bokakhat Vivek Shyam at No. 1 Tamulipathar.
The inaugural programme was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner. In his speech, he appealed to the students and the people to follow the basic principles of sanitation and ensure scientific sanitation facilities in all households. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dhiraj Das, EE, PHE, Upendra Singh, AEE Bijit Dutta, Principal of Melamora College, Sanjib Baruah, Principal of Golaghat Junior College, Malabika Saikia, retired teacher Ghaneshwari Saikia, Chairman of Melamora College Management Committee, Pradip Saikia, local villagers and gaonburahs, students, teachers and guardians were present at the function. A movie titled Toilet-Ek Prem Katha was also screened. A tree plantation drive was also carried out. Three turtles, donated by MLA Mrinal Saikia, were released into the Turtle Preservation Centre near the college as part of the programme.
Morigaon Correspondent adds: In Morigaon district, under the Mission-100 scheme, as many as three mega water supply projects were inaugurated in three different locations yesterday. The Tarabori water supply scheme was formally inaugurated by Rama Kanta Deori, MLA, Morigaon, while Buwalguri Model Water Supply scheme was formally opened by Angurlata Deka, MLA, Battadrava. The third water supply scheme under Lahorighat block was inaugurated by Ananta Gogoi, ADC, Morigaon.
J Medhi, Executive Engineer, PHE, Morigaon Division said that the department has successfully executed the Swachh Survekshan programme in the rural areas.
Tinsukia Correspondent adds: Swachhata Hi Seva programme was also launched in Tinsukia yesterday.
On the occasion, the district administration organised a function at Makum College which was formally inaugurated by local MLA, Sanjay Kishan. He also launched a water supply scheme at No. 2 Habeda village near Makum under the �Mission -100�. The function was also addressed by Digboi MLA, Suren Phukon, DC, Oinam Sarankumar Singh, ADC, PP Bairagi, DIPR, Ratan Saud and other dignitaries.
