CM launches new ferry service

JORHAT, Oct 11 - State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today flagged off the modern RO RO (Roll-on/Roll-Off) vessel service between Kamalabari Ghat (Majuli) and Nimati Ghat (Jorhat) in the presence of his cabinet colleague Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and MPs Pradan Pradan Baruah and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa respectively.

Tingkhong MLA Bimal Bora, Chief Minister's Press and Law advisers Hrishikesh Goswami, Santanu Bharali along with IWT Director BB Devchoudhary and Inland Waterways Authority of India Director Surinder Singh were also present on the occasion.

A district administration source told this newspaper that the vessel christened as MV Bhupen Hazarika, has been built at a cost of Rs 10 crore by the Inland Waterways Authority of India, will be able to carry over 100 passengers along with eight goods-trucks with each weighing 25 tonnes or 25 small vehicles.
