North Lakhimpur, Jan 30: “Sports is a great unifying factor and it can make peace among people worldwide,” this was what Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said today in Salalgaon in North Lakhimpur while inaugurating the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Sports Training Centre.


He asked all the sportspersons to be prepared for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from this time onwards.


The inaugural function was attended by Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, MLA Utpal Dutta, Regional Director of SAI Dr Subhas Basumatary, Regional Director of SAI (Ops) Shiva Sarma, among others were also present at the inaugural ceremony. The SAI Sports Training Centre has a multi sports indoor hall and a hostel for athletes. The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Synthetic Athletics Track at North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) constructed under Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS).
