JORHAT, Nov 1 � Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi while inaugurated the Kaziranga Golf Resort at Sangsua Tea Estate near Jorhat today said that this golf course has come up due to the untiring efforts of renowned tea planter Hemendra Prasad Barooah. Earlier most of the golf courses in NE India were constructed by the British.
�This world class golf course, one of India�s finest, has been designed keeping the natural surroundings of the area in mind and the natural features of the course will give the golfers a great visual treat�, said Gogoi.
The Chief Minister further said that the newly constructed Kaziranga Golf Resort will give impetus to the growth of tea tourism in the region.
Addressing the audience, HP Barooah, chairman of B and A Group said that Kaziranga Golf Resort has presented to the country the finest and a unique golfing destination. Carved out amid tea gardens, the 18-hole par � 71 facility is the first true championship course in the North-East.
The new 6900-yard beauty was designed by renowned course designer Ranjit Nanda who has developed and worked with some of the most renowned golf courses in the country. The golf course is marketed by Tiger Sports Marketing, a leading golf event management firm.
Barooah made an announcement that Gogoi has been honoured with the honorary life membership of the golf club. The Kaziranga Golf Resort will cater to golfers of all levels � beginners, intermediate and experts. Apart from the challenging layout, the Kaziranga Golf Resort offers five-star accommodation with well appointed rooms which are a mix of colonial bungalows and state-of-the-art facilities.
