CM inaugurates IT centre, satellite hub

AZARA, Feb 21 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today formally inaugurated the resource centre in information technology and satellite hub at Kahikuchi campus of SIRD.

Inaugurating the centre the Chief Minister said that the centre would bring change in all sectors like rural development, education, agriculture, rural economy etc. The Chief Minister said that the Government is committed to make the rural people self-employed. He also stressed on women-empowerment, cottage industry and distance education and learning. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a newly constructed administrative building of extension centre, SIRD at Kahikuchi.

Gogoi also interacted with several persons in different districts through the satellite hub.

The function was also addressed by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Chandan Brahma, Bikram Desai, ISRO, Archana Verma, Commission secretary, P & RD, Abinash Joshi, commissioner, P & RD, Director, SIRD, K Kalita among others. Earlier, Jakir Hussain, assistant director SIRD gave a welcome address.

It may be noted here that the objectives of the IT centre and satellite hub is to provide training facilities for distance learning through satellite based training programme. The centre also aims to cater to the need of several sectors in rural development and panchayatiraj.

Foundation stone

Guwahati, Feb 21 � The foundation stone of multistoried multipurpose building for the benefit of tea and ex-tea garden tribes of Assam was laid by Prithivi Majhi, Minister, Labour and Employment, on February 17 at the premises of Assam Tea Employees Welfare Board, Ganeshguri here.

Nitya Nanda Borkakoki, director, Welfare of Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes, Assam, Kameswar Gazloo, Welfare Commissioner, Assam Tea Employees Welfare Board were also present.
