CM inaugurates bridge, lays foundation for Mini Secretariat in Barak Valley

SILCHAR, March 2: In a major fillip towards augmenting the pace of development in Barak Valley, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the long awaited second RCC bridge over the river Barak at Sadarghat in Silchar on Saturday.

As a part of his whirlwind visit here, Sonowal also laid the foundation stone of the much awaited Mini Secretariat in Barak Valley along with a slew of projects including revamping new auditorium of District Library, Sports Stadium at the Police Parade ground under Utton scheme, Swami Vivekananda Cultural Research Centre and and construction of RCC bridge at Itkholaghat over the river Barak connecting Dudhpatil with Silchar city.

"I am overwhelmed by the love and warmth the people of Barak Valley have bestowed upon me. This is a remarkable ocassion. The setting up of Mini Secretariat using Rs 400 crores will ease administrative work for people of Barak. Lot of the work will be done here. It is an age of competition and we must be in the race," the Chief Minister said.

Minister of Forests, Fisheries and Excise Parimal Suklabaidya, local MP Sushmita Dev, former Union minister Kabindra Purakayastha, local MLAs of the district accompanied the Chief Minister at the inauguration.

It may be mentioned that the RCC bridge has been constructed within four years time at an estimated cost of Rs 59 crores.
