GUWAHATI, July 10 - Expressing happiness over the success achieved by youths from Assam in the UPSC exams, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said the State government will set up a special programme to provide coaching to students and youngsters to help them enter Central government services, including civil services, railways, armed forces, banking and institutions like IIT and IIM.

Speaking to reporters here recently, Gogoi said there is scarcity of good coaching institutions in Assam and the State government is committed to address the issue.

The success of our youths in the UPSC exams proves that our youngsters are capable and confident. It also shows success of the schemes like Gyanjyoti. Year after year, our students and youths have been improving their performance in all sorts of exams, whether matric, higher secondary or UPSC, he said.

The Chief Minister admitted that Assams representation in Central government jobs is still low and the programme will aim to address the matter.

He said that the State government will focus on preservation and protection of heritage sites, including religious places, educational institutions and other structures and expressed satisfaction over grant of heritage status to Cotton College by the UGC.

Regarding findings of the Socio Economic and Caste Census, the Chief Minister said a high-level committee has been formed to study the report and suggest ways to rectify the areas where there are shortcomings.
