GUWAHATI, Jan 27 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed his gratitude to all sections of the people of Assam irrespective of all caste, creed, class and religion for their spontaneous participation in the 71st Republic Day of the nation.
In a statement today, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the spontaneous participation of the people of Assam in the Republic Day celebrations was a testimony to the people�s deep faith in the democratic process of the country.
Participating in the Republic Day celebrations at Shraddhanjali Kanan here on Sunday and leading the State in paying rich tributes to the martyrs of the freedom struggle, Chief Minister Sonowal said that in order to make Assam more vibrant, the people of the State cutting across caste, creed and ethnicity, should work unitedly to sustain the age-old friendship and camaraderie which made the State unique.
Meanwhile, various organisations and agencies in the city joined the 71st Republic Day celebrations on Sunday with joy and enthusiasm.
The day is celebrated with grandeur in the Frontier HQ BSF Patgaon, Guwahati, and all units of the Frontier. IG Piyus Mordia unfurled the National Flag and addressed the troops of the frontier, 1st BN NDRF and the Composite Hospital and reminded them of the supreme sacrifices made by the freedom fighters in giving the country freedom.
A BSF marching contingent, including BSF band, participated in the State March-Past event organised at Veterinary Field, Khanapara, Guwahati, in which the BSF Guwahati FTR marching contingent was declared as best marching contingent of the Republic Day Parade 2020.
The Northeast Frontier Railway celebrated the 71st Republic Day in a befitting manner. The central programme was held at the Maligaon Railway stadium, where Sanjive Roy, General Manager of NF Railway hoisted the National Flag in presence of a huge gathering of railway officials and their family members. The General Manager also inspected march-past by contingents of RPF, Territorial Army, Civil Defence, school children and Bharat Scouts & Guides.
The day was also observed at Udyog Bhawan, Bamunimaidam, Guwahati. Additional Director, Industries and Commerce, Bipul Das, unfurled the National Flag. He called upon the people present to uphold the democratic values in all spheres of their professional and personal lives.
The day was celebrated at the Assam Engineering Institute (AEI) playground at Chandmari under the auspices of the Hindu Yuva Jagaran Mancha on Sunday.
Nearly 400 bikers took out a rally on the occasion covering MRD and GNB roads and Dighalipukhuri before assembling at the AEI field, Chandmari.
Inaugurating the rally, senior journalist DN Chakravartty said that at the dawn of India�s freedom, there were only 44 independent countries in the world but India�s freedom flung open the door of liberation for nearly 155 countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Khagen Saikia, RSS organiser and several other leaders of Hindu Yuva Jagaran Mancha were present at the function.
Lions Club of Guwahati city celebrated the day with the children�s and parents of the Sahyog School. The programme was attended by a host of Lions Club office-bearers, including secretary Sanjay Sonthalia.
The day was celebrated at Sri Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School on January 25 in its campus.
The institution was decorated with Tricolour balloons. Students of the junior section took part in several competitions such as drawing competition, essay writing competition, solo song, solo dance, speech and go-as-you-like competition, etc.
The go-as-you-like performed by the students of Pre-Nursery to KG attired like freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Mangal Pandey, etc., were another highlight.
