CM hails activities of Guwahati Biotech Park

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently visited the Guwahati Biotech Park to oversee its functioning at the campus of IIT, Guwahati on the outskirts of the city, said an official press release here.

The Chief Minister, who is the Chairman of the Guwahati Biotech Park Society, went around the incubation centre of the biotech park. Members of the faculty apprised the Chief Minister about the various activities undertaken by the park.

Later, a power-point presentation was made to the Chief Minister about the functioning and various activities of the park. During the course of the discussions, the Chief Minister asked the Director, IIT, Guwahati under which the park operates, to start innovative projects for young scientists and entrepreneurs. �Space may be given free of cost to the young scientists and entrepreneurs so that they can come up with innovative ideas,� he said.

CEO of Guwahati Biotech Park, Dr J Balaji apprised the Chief Minister that the proposed permanent site of the park near the DC�s office would come up on 100 bighas of land. Of the 100 bighas, 64 bighas have already been acquired. The DC requested the Chief Minister to issue necessary orders for early possession of the remaining land for the proposed park.

The Chief Minister appreciated the activities undertaken by the Guwahati Biotech Park and extended his Government�s support and cooperation in all its future endeavours.

Minister, PWD, Ajanta Neog was also present in the discussions.

The Guwahati Biotech Park, the first of its kind in Eastern India, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on February 25, 2011.
