CM for working unitedly to develop State

GUWAHATI, April 27 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that the record turnout witnessed in Assam in the Lok Sabha elections points to the enthusiasm of the masses towards the democratic system.

Addressing the media at the State headquarters of the BJP here, Sonowal said the enthusiasm shown by the electorate of the State has further strengthened the democratic tradition of India. �The fact that polling was peaceful in the State was a big achievement for the citizens of Assam,� he said.

Complimenting the media for its role in ensuring greater voter participation in the elections, Sonowal said that in the coming days, all sections of the Assamese society should work unitedly to take the State to greater heights.

�My government will be completing three years in office next month. The experience we have gained during this time shows that we can achieve a lot if we all work together,� the Chief Minister said.

He claimed that the social welfare schemes of the government have benefitted all sections of the society.

Sonowal, however, did not take any questions from the media.
