CM for timely implementation of rural electrification scheme

GUWAHATI, March 18 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the implementing agencies of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) to ensure quality in their work and complete the same within a fixed time frame.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need to prepare a roadmap for integration of responsibilities of all stakeholders and elicit higher participation of people in the management of this rural electrification scheme implemented in the State, said an official press release here this evening.

�It is very important that the people take ownership of the scheme and understand the value of electricity. Similarly, the implementing agencies should also ensure quality service to increase the credibility of their work,� Sonowal said while reviewing the progress of DDUGJY in the presence of representatives of Rural Electrification Corporation at the Chief Minister�s conference room at Janata Bhawan here today.

Emphasising the need for developing a quality maintenance legacy for the works, Chief Minister Sonowal also stressed the need for strengthening the system, so that the works which have been executed already can withstand the climatic disasters.

The Chief Minister also called for engaging rural electrification engineers for monitoring the ongoing works.

In Assam, out of the total 2892 un-electrified villages, electrification of 2015 villages have been completed and work is in progress for 692 villages. The ongoing works will cover 57,381 habitation and 22,51,363 households.

Minister of State for Power Pallav Lochan Das, Additional Chief Secretary (Power) Rajiv Kumar Bora, Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman, APDCL, APGCL, AEGCL Ravi Capoor and other senior officers of the State government were present in the meeting.
