CM for 2-phase polls ahead of Rongali Bihu

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 1 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the State Government wanted the forthcoming Assembly polls to be held before the Rongali Bihu in April and in two phases.

We are for holding the polls before the Rongali Bihu celebrations. We also want the election to be held in two phases for making the process convenient for all. The final decision, however, will be taken by the Election Commission, Gogoi said during a media interaction.

Terming the year 2010 as a good one for the State, Gogoi said that the development process gained momentum during the period, with peace and stability also showing much improvement.

All along during our tenure we have shown that development is possible even during unrest. We did not wait for peace to return to carry on developmental activities and the results are there for all to see, Gogoi said.

Claiming that he was the best Chief Minister the State had had since 1972, Gogoi said that none of his predecessors could be credited with doing more than what he had done during his two terms as head of the Government.

I can say that no Chief Minister since 1972 had done more developmental work than I have done in the StateI am equally serious about combating corruption and had ordered probes whenever the occasion warranted, Gogoi said.
