CM discusses COVID situation, other issues with Governor

GUWAHATI, June 24 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today met Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan here and apprised him of the COVID-19 situation in the State, the Baghjan gas blowout incident and the prevailing flood situation.

In an approximately 30-minute long meeting, Sonowal drew the attention of the Governor to different measures being taken by the government, particularly the locality-based lockdown clamped in Guwahati. He also said that the government is maintaining a strict vigil over the situation and will take appropriate steps seeing the development over the next one week.

On the Baghjan incident, the Chief Minister apprised the Governor that sustained efforts are being made round-the-clock to put a cap on the blowout areas. On being asked about the reported tremor around the affected areas, Sonowal informed the Governor that the North East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat, is conducting an in-depth study with the help of the IIT Guwahati to find out the probable cause behind the tremor.

On the flood situation in the State, the Chief Minister informed the Governor that the administrations in the affected districts have been directed to reach out to the marooned people and carry out relief and rescue works. The Governor said that in view of the pandemic, the government should take adequate precautions to help the flood-affected people in line with the coronavirus safety protocols, so that the viral infections cannot spread in the relief camps.
