CM calls for removing flaws in building by-laws

GUWAHATI, Oct 9 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today directed the Guwahati Development Department to prepare a contemporary set of building by-laws within October 31 while removing the flaws in the present by-laws to develop the real estate sector.

He also instructed the department to take steps for speeding up the process of house construction under affordable housing schemes. The Chief Minister issued the directions at a meeting on GST at Janata Bhawan here, an official release stated.

In the meeting, which was held for seeking suggestions on GST from different stakeholders and organisations, Sonowal directed the Principal Secretary of the Finance Department to publish a multilingual booklet for sharing information on GST for the benefit of small and medium business entities.

He also emphasized on the importance of making the general business community aware about the different aspects of GST through awareness programmes.

In order to develop the automobile industry in the State and pass on the benefit to those people engaged in it, the Chief Minister instructed the authorities to take steps to set up a transport city on the outskirts of Guwahati. He also directed for resolving all disputed cases from the pre-GST period within the next six months on the basis of VAT.

Representatives from FINER, hotel industry, real estate, Tax Bar Association, Automobile Association, Electric Merchants Association, Garment Merchants Association, Chartered Accountants Association, Guwahati Tea Warehousing Association, Guwahati Sanitary and Hardware Association and Assam Chambers of Commerce took part in the meeting.
