CM attends weavers� conference

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Oct 25 - The Directorate of Handloom and Textile organized a weavers� conference covering Majuli, Biswanath, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur in North Lakhimpur today.

Participating in the conference, Chief Minister

Sarbananda Sonowal said that the State Government has taken a number steps to develop the handloom and handicraft sector of the State considering its growing market in the world. �To capture the global market, our artisans should innovate their products by applying new designs,� the Chief Minister said.

He also urged upon the weaving community to reap benefits of the schemes implemented by the Handloom and Textile department.

The meeting was also addressed by Ministers Ranjit Dutta, Naba Kumar Doley and MP Pradan Baruah. Today�s convention was attended by Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur, Gohpur MLA Utpal Borah, Dhemaji MLA Dr Ranoj Pegu and ex-Minister Premadhar Borah. Director of Handloom and Textiles Bishnu Kamal Borah was also present at the function.

Earlier in the morning, the members of Brihattar Asomiya Yuva Mancha and All India Democratic Students� organization staged a protest against the Chief Minister�s visit.
