By CORRESPONDENT

NAGAON, Jan 16 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the century-old Nagaon Bhogali Bihu utsav and formally hoisted the Bihu flag.

In his address, CM greeted the people on the occasion of Magh Bihu and said that this Bihu would bring peace and prosperity to the people of Assam. The Magh Bihu is a symbol of unity and I wish it (Bihu) will further cement the bond among the people of the State, he said.

In this context, he asserted that the BJP-led Government at the Centre and the State is committed to protecting the rights of the indigenous people of Assam. We will protect the rights of the indigenous people and the Citizenship Bill will definitely help our people to a large extent, he reiterated.

Highlighting the schemes under taken by the BJP Government, Sonowal said that the Centre has accorded top priority to the development of the North-east. The people of the region have already seen the path of development under the bold leadership of our Prime Minister and many more schemes are in the pipeline, he said, adding that his government has been successful in checking corruption.

Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, the Chief Minister said that Congress party is now trying to divide the people by disseminating false news in the name of Citizenship Bill.

Despite tight security arrangements, some activists of the AJYCP staged a protest against the Chief Ministers visit.
