CM assures land for Sankaradeva university

JORHAT, Feb 12 � In the open meet of 79th annual session of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha, held at Samannaya Khetra at Titabor here today Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi assured to allot land for the proposed Srimanta Sankaradeva University at Nagaon.

In his address Gogoi said, Sankaradeva established the foundation of modern Assam. He is one of the greatest personalities in the world who devoted his life for the welfare of mankind. He further added that the ideals of Sankaradeva is still relevant in the present day society.

The open meet was inaugurated by Sonaram Chutia, the noted scholar of Shankari Culture and winner of Sankaradeva Award. Karuna Kanta Kalita, Padadhikar, Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha, presided over the meeting. Deva Kumar Bora, Press adviser to CM and Putul Burhagohain, president of Jorhat Zila Parishad were also present in the meeting.

Earlier in the morning a colourful procession with the sacred �Bhagawat� was taken out in this connection.

The 200 camps in the venue were crowded with the devotees from all over Assam. A book fair and exhibition of local items were also attracted many a visitors there.
