CM asks police to be sensitive towards poor

GUWAHATI, May 6 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that Assam Police need to be more sensitive towards the cause of the poor and the deprived.

He said that the role of the police department in maintaining law and order is very crucial, and that they need to live up to the expectations of the common man.

Gogoi was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on �Smart Policing� organised at the Assam Police headquarters here. The workshop is being attended by senior police officials of various States.

Gogoi also appreciated the sacrificial attitude of the police force and said that in a democracy, it was very important for the police department to work effectively. He urged the men in khaki to avoid human rights violation.

The inaugural session was also attended by Director General of Assam Police Khagen Sarma, Commissioner and Secretary of the Home Department, LS Changsan and Additional Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu among others.
