CM allays fears over NRC discrepancies

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, June 8 - Amidst the simmering tension among a section of people in the State, and Barak Valley in particular, ahead of the second draft of the National Register of Citizens to be published on June 30, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today allayed apprehensions saying that people must not pay heed to the rumour mills which are working overtime and only meant to trigger confusion and panic.

If certain names do not feature in the second draft, even then people will have the option for claims and objections. They must not be fazed by rumours spread by unscrupulous elements. The Government is committed to stand by the people, both in Barak and Brahmaputra valleys, Sonowal assured.

On the sidelines of inaugurating a multi-speciality healthcare centre in Silchar, the Chief Minister was quick to add that ensuring social and economic security for the people of the State is the foremost priority of the Government.

The foundation stone of the much-awaited Mini Secretariat in Barak Valley will be laid before the ensuing Durga Puja, Sonowal announced.
