CM, AASU mourn death of Pankaj Bordoloi

GUWAHATI, March 20 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has condoled the death of eminent singer, lyricist and music composer Pankaj Bordoloi who passed away at Tezpur on Friday.�

In a statement, the Chief Minister said that Bordoloi lent his artistic calibre in multidimensional facets, right from singing to acting, and enriched the cultural landscape of the State with his contributions.

�He popularised Jyoti Sangeet and Rabha Sangeet among the younger generations. Even during the Assam Agitation, he motivated the people by his cultural acuity. His death is an irreparable loss to society,� he said.�

The Chief Minister conveyed his sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.

The All Assam Students� Union (AASU) has also mourned the death of the eminent singer-composer. In a condolence message, the AASU said that Bordoloi enriched the Assamese nationalism through his contributions in the field of music and allied spheres.

�His death is an irreparable loss for the State and his legacy will inspire future generations,� it said.

The All Guwahati Students� Union (AGSU) also condoled the demise, terming it an irreparable loss for the State, especially the younger generations who learnt the purest forms of Jyoti Sangeet and Rabha Sangeet from him.

For his remarkable contributions, Bordoloi was conferred the Swabhab Shilpi Amulya Kakati Memorial Award in 2019 by the Students-Artistes-Litterateur Welfare Trust of the AGSU.
