Clouded leopard named Natl Games mascot

By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, Feb 12 - The elusive and rare clouded leopard found in parts of Garo Hills has been chosen as the mascot for the 2022 National Games to be held here.

The decision to choose the clouded leopard as the mascot for the Games was taken at the first meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Games 2022 chaired by Sports Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh.

A competition would be held to design the mascot in the form of a smiling clouded leopard. The clouded leopard is also the State animal.

Officials said that a competition would also be held for the public to finalise the logo and the theme of the National Games. The competition would be organised by the department of Information and Public Relations together with the Education Department.

To finalise the number of sporting events, venues and sports infrastructure, it was agreed that sub-committees would be formed to be headed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Games Secretariat who will then submit a report to the National Games Organising Committee, a statement said.
