Closure of toll gates resulting in revenue loss

By Correspondent

MORIGAON, Dec 2 - As many as 12 toll gates on National Highways 37 and 56 under the National Highway Authority of India have remained closed in the State for the last six months, causing a huge loss of revenue.

According to sources, several organisations resorted to an agitation in protest against the installation of toll gates on national highways in the State, resulting in the closure of the collection gates of NHAI. The repairing works of those highways will be adversely affected as the Union Road & Transport Ministry earmarked highway repairing funds from the revenue collected from toll gates.

The NHAI and the Union Road & Transport Ministry issued several notices to the State Government to restart those toll gates. But till date, these have remained closed due to law-and-order problems, a senior official of the NHAI said.
