GUWAHATI, May 28 Public activist Prof Deven Dutta on Tuesday night had a providential escape near Ganesh Mandir, Ganeshguri, when the Tata Sumo he was travelling in was hit by a water tanker (AS-01-J-1752). Prof Dutta said the tanker driver, about 20-years-old and apparently a handyman, did not have a driving licence. He later fled the scene, and in the process, almost ran over me. But for the intervention of a few persons who had gathered at the site, I couldve been killed. It was an attempt to murder, he said, ruing the inaction of Dispur police whom he had called up several times immediately after the accident at 9.19 pm. Staff Reporter
