Close shave for Jadav Payeng

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 22 - Forest Man of India Jadav Payeng had a boat accident in the early hours today when the vessel he was travelling in along with his son and a nephew capsized in the Brahmaputra. They were on their way to Molai Kathoni near Kokilamukh in Jorhat district the forest on a large sandbar of the Brahmaputra which he has been nurturing for over 40 years.

They were rescued by a mechanized boat after they had been washed downstream for about three kilometres. None of them was hurt in the accident.

We had set off from our home early morning with some fodder for the herbivores, as they are experiencing food shortage amid the deluge.

The air was thick with fog and visibility low. When the boat capsized, we held on to the boat and drifted downstream for about 3 km before we were rescued by a mechanized boat, Payeng told The Assam Tribune.
