GUWAHATI, Dec 11 - Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Debabrata Saikia today wrote to the Speaker of the State Assembly with a request to clear doubts over the convening of the Winter Session of the State Assembly. He called for urgent steps to convene the Session.
In the letter, Saikia said, ... the Winter Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly has now become a matter of speculation in as much as doubts are arising as to whether it would be convened at all, and, if convened, when that fortunate hour will come.
He asserted that the convention of convening the Winter Session of the State Assembly to discuss various important issues before the Budget Session has now been ignored.
Our misgivings have been accentuated by the fact that a similar process of neglect and delay is taking place with regard to the Winter Session of Parliament. Many of us who are in the Opposition are inclined to believe that it is not mere coincidence that this blatant disregard of parliamentary tradition is taking place at a time when the BJP is in power in the State, he said.
There seems to be a design to undermine the very foundations of our democratic ethos, Saikia further said.
