DIMAPUR, Nov 4 The Youth Department of Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) organised a rally on Clean Election in the district headquarters and major towns of the State today.
Addressing the rallyists at Kohima Local Ground, Convenor of the Committee on Clean Election Dr Hovithal Sothu strongly advocated clean and fair elections in the State, saying so many things are going wrong in the race to the Assembly as well as to the Parliament which have become synonymous with spending money, immoral activities, fights and broken families.
During the youth rally, held against the backdrop of the NSFs appeal to postpone it, Dr Sothu pointed out that seeing these ill effects, the NBCC has decided to take up this fight, which, he described as spiritual fight for clean election. He stressed that time has come for the young people to fight against the ill practices in the society and decide what you want to give to your children and your people.
He also said the NBCCs concern is not only the forthcoming election but other elections that will come in the future, while stressing the urgent need to choose a good, principled and a God-fearing leader. Let us choose people who are God-fearing and not people with money, he urged.
Further, impressing upon that we need people who have integrity, he expressed the belief that if the number of 60 people sitting in the State Assembly can be God-fearing, are principled and men of integrity, Nagaland will progress.
He maintained that the problem is not only with them but with us as well. Young people have to rise up and stand against money power, he stated. In the meantime, he appealed to the Election department to strictly implement the voters ID cards in the forthcoming elections.
Director of Youth Net, Hekani Jakhalu said we are in a mess today and corruption has infested every bit of our life.
N Moa from the Election department urged the gathering to stand against unclean activities, starting with election and have a decisive factor to fight against money and muscle power and choose the right candidate. We need a paradigm shift to have a cleaner and fairer election, he stated.
The Clean Election rally was also held in many other parts of the State.
