By Correspondent

DIPHU, March 23 - Classrooms and toilet blocks have been constructed by the Indian Army in Karbi Anglong hill district.

In continuation of the projects aimed to help the less-privileged people in far-flung areas in Karbi Anglong district, the Indian Armys Red Horns Division, deployed in east Karbi Anglong, constructed and handed over two classrooms with proper electrification and two toilet blocks with water supply to St Johns English School at Phonglokphet under Operation Sadbhavana Project 2019-2020.

The project was inaugurated on March 16 by Karbi Anglong Deputy Commissioner Mukul Saikia in the presence of the Company Commander Bakulia COB at Phonglokphet village.

A large number of students, parents and locals attended the programme. This endeavour is a humane gesture to facilitate better schooling and sanitary facilities for school children, which will assist them in imbibing healthy community and personal habits, besides encouraging quality teaching at the school, the army officer said.

The event received overwhelming response from the local administration and villagers as many similar projects have been undertaken by the Red Horns Division in the adjoining areas.

The troops deployed in the area also expressed happiness in being part of such developmental projects and assured the locals that more such projects will be taken up in future to improve their quality of life.

It may be mentioned here that the village was affected by extortion activities by anti-social elements, which has now been greatly reduced due to the proactive stance taken by the troops deployed in the area.
