Classes at Gurdon HSS resume despite presence of strong room

By Correspondent

NALBARI, May 6 - Classes at the historic Gurdon HS School here, which is being used as a strong room for storing EVMs following the just-concluded Lok Sabha election in the state, has resumed since Wednesday due to the special initiative taken by Nalbari Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury.

The school is being used as a strong room, besides conducting other election- related works since 1985, thus affecting normal classes and the teaching schedule. As a result, the students had been losing 30 to 45 academic days during each election, like panchayat, civic body, Assembly and Lok Sabha.

This time the Nalbari Deputy Commissioner strictly considered the academic loss of the students and directed the school authority to resume classes which were cancelled just a week before the second phase of polling.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the teachers to take special classes in order to compensate for the academic loss sustained due to election-related works.

For smooth functioning of the school, the Deputy Commissioner himself carried out a cleanliness drive at the school campus. The steps initiated by the Deputy Commissioner was appreciated by the cross-section of people of the district.
