Class resumption opposed

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Aug 27 - The Assam state unit of National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Thursday sent a memorandum to State Health and Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma urging him to postpone the date of resumption of classes and examinations.

In the memorandum to Dr Sarma, the NSUI unit said resumption of classes and examinations at this hour would affect the student community of the State both physically and mentally.

The Registrar of Gauhati University vide a notification had stated that classes would resume on September 1 and examinations are being planned to be conducted from the last week of September.

In its memorandum the NSUI unit pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic is at its peak, particularly in Assam and the student community is vulnerable to it. In such a situation if the GU authorities reopen the educational institutions, there is every possibility that the student community would be affected mentally and physically, it further argued.

We request you to reconsider the matter and postpone the date of reopening of classes and examinations till the vaccine is available to all, the memorandum added.
