Civilians, BSF, Army personnel, police test COVID-19 positive in Cachar

SILCHAR, JUNE 28: In a major escalation of COVID-19 positive cases, as many as 19 positive cases were detected on Saturday.

District Media Expert NHM Suman Choudhury informed that the 19 cases include civilians, police officials, BSF and Army personnel.

"Of the positive patients,three civilians have travel histories while there are 11BSF Jawans, four Army persons and one Assam police official. While the Army persons will be treated at their own hospital, remaining patients would be shifted to SMCH," Choudhury said.

He informed that the police official has no travel history and his swab sample was collected as a part of the targetted community surveillance programme.

His contact tracing is being done with priority, the NHM official said.

On the other hand, a senior official from Karimganj police informed that a lady constable stationed at Bajarichora police station was detected to be COVID-19 positive.

She has been admitted at the Karimganj COVID-19 hospital and her health condition is reported to be stable, the official informed.

Meanwhile, following the Government announcement of total lockdown on weekends in municipal areas across the state, the urban sprawl of Silchar witnessed a stricter lockdown on Saturday.

Police and paramilitary persons were seen patrolling across the town as shutters of shops and other establishments remained closed.
