City to host Lajong matches

GUWAHATI, Dec 3 - Two I-League matches of Shillong Lajong Football Club will be played at the Nehru Stadium here.

Confirming it in a press conference here today, Lojong secretary Larsing Ming, who is also the secretary of Meghalaya Football Association, said on December 11 Lajong will play against Mumbai Football Club and on January 29 they will take on Chirag United, Kerala.

Ming said till now Khuman Lampak Stadium, Imphal was their home ground as Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong is getting face lift. The officials of Shillong Lajong expected that the renovation works of Shillong stadium will be completed by November and their remaining home matches will be conducted there. But as some works are yet to be completed they preferred Nehru Stadium here as their home ground. Ming also revealed that for them Guwahati stadium is proved to be lucky. They performed here tremendously in 2009 Federation Cup. They were beaten by East Bengal in the final. In this season Lajong played eight matches so far out of which they won two. They have nine points in their kitty and placed in eighth place in the table. The Lajong authority has signed MoU with Board of Sports of Assam for the ground. Ming further revealed that they will organise both the matches of their own. The rates of tickets are not yet finalised, Ming said. Both the matches are likely to be played in day time.
