City to host IIAPL from Jan 5

GUWAHATI, Jan 3 - The Assam Chapter of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) will host the sixth Indian Institute of Architects Premier League (IIAPL) here from January 5.

The organisers are planning to host the event in a befitting manner as it is the Centenary year of the IIA and the event will be known as Centenary IIAPL.

Three sports events � cricket, table tennis and badminton will be conducted during the four-day championship where 300 players from 14 IIA Chapters along with President�s XI and a team from Neighbouring country Bangladesh will contest in different competitions.

While the table tennis and badminton competitions will be held at the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium, Sarusajai sports complex, the cricket tournament will be organised at the NF Railway Stadium, Maligaon, Judges� Field, IIT ground and Oil India Limited, Narengi ground.

Giving details about the championship, Ramendra Baishya, secretary of the Assam Chapter said in a press conference here today said, for the first time the IIAPL will introduce River Dolphin as the event mascot and it will be named �Bapukon�.

He further revealed that a Centenary Run will be organised on January 6 which will be led by Arjuna Award winning boxer Shiva Thapa.

The opening ceremony of the event is scheduled to be held at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium at 5 pm on January 5. The Directorate of Sports will provide assistance in organising the meet.
